Get retro with this treasure trove collection of authentic
Atari titles, with all the 3D gameplay, addictive action,
sights and sounds that you remember...
Atari
Anthology includes
a total of 85 games - most of which you'll never have heard
off. There are 18 classic arcade games including Asteroids,
Battlezone, Centipede, Missile Command and Tempest.
There are also 67 Atari 2600 games including Millipede,
Super Breakout, Video Pinball, Yar's Revenge and Warlords.
Now,
a word to the wise, these games may have been cutting edge
when they were first released, but they are pretty dull by
today's standards. This release would
have been a great idea about 10 years ago, but to be honest
I can't think of anyone who will really need to rush out and
buy this - other than those die-hard Atari fanatics who remember
playing these games when they were originally released.
There
are many better collections on the market at the moment -
for example Sega has just released its Sonic
Mega Collection Plus on PS2 and Xbox. That
collection features all of the Sonic related Megadrive and
Game Gear games and is well worth picking up.
I
really was disappointed with the Atari Anthology. Yes
you get a lot of games, yes it's fun to replay some of them
after all this time - but that fun lasts for about three minutes
and then they are pretty boring.
You'll
play this for a week and then stick it in the loft with your
old Atari console. Now what we really want is a collection
of classic 80s arcade games like Out Run, Space Harrier
and Star Wars. That would be a collection worth
purchasing.
