Winter
Assault is
an expansion pack for 2004's monster of a game,
Dawn
of War.
If you don't already own the original game, THQ are also launching
this as a twin pack Gold
Edition which includes the original game and
Winter Assault for only £5 more than this release.
Warhammer
40,000: Dawn of War is a science fiction real-time strategy
(RTS) game set in the violent, post-apocalyptic universe of
the 41st Millennium. Command hardened troops, deadly vehicles
and high tech weaponry with one goal in mind, the complete
extermination of the opposition. Whether you lead humanity's
finest - the Space Marines, the diabolic and villainous traitors
of man - the Chaos Space Marines, the brutal and savage beasts
- the Orks, or the psychic and technologically advanced alien
warriors - the Eldar, you control the action and the fate
of your race.
Winter
Assault adds much to the original game. As well as tweaking
the graphics, the developers have introduced another race.
The Imperial Guard add
a much needed defensive aspect to the game play. The Imperial
Guard are, in reality, average humans whose role is to destroy
the evil supernatural forces of the universe. Being mere mortals,
they lack the brutish strength of a lot of the other races
in the game (Orcs and Space Marines, for example) and to survive
they are grouped together into huge armies.
The
other races have also been tweaked providing the gamer with
more variations to explore. We're
also offered two campaigns (Order or Disorder) which pits
Imperial Guard vs. Chaos and Eldar vs. Orcs).
If
you still play Dawn of War at every opportunity, then
you need to get hold of Winter Assault. And if you
only dig the original out now and again, this expansion pack
will have you back to playing into the small hours... you
have been warned.
You'd
have to be dead from the neck up
to not enjoy this game.
