This time around, the path to the Heavyweight Championship
will be even more difficult as the line between friend and
foe is not always clear. Create your own superstar character
and take them on a continuing journey of deception and vindication,
including the highest quality cut scenes offered so far in
the series. There are also new finishing moves, speciality
grapples and better AI differentiation between characters
to bring a new level of realism to the series. There are also
new WWE Legends for you to play, including Hulk Hogan, Ultimate
Warrior, Mankind and more...
Day
of Reckoning 2 is certainly
more playable than the first
game and the graphics are noticeably improved.
There's even a tutorial - a nice touch and something that
is oddly absent from just about every other wrestling game
on the market.
You can either create your own wrestler (creating an odd looking
character is easy, but creating one that looks like yourself
is no simple task) or chose from 45 WWE superstars
that are already programmed into the game. Don't worry though
if your favourite character is not included (a lot have been
omitted due to copyright reasons) because all the parts are
there, it's just down to you to create them. Actually 45 is
not as large a number of ready made stars as are in some of
the other wrestling games, but it should be enough to get
you started.
The
controls have been changed too. It's now much simpler to get
to grips with the controls - which could be a little frustrating
on the first instalment of this franchise.
The PS2's Smackdown
Vs Raw is still the undisputed king of the
wrestling market, but Day of Reckoning 2 is the best
we've seen so far for the Gamecube. If wrestling games are
your thing, then you won't be disappointed by THQ's latest
offering for the Gamecube.
