Mr Incredible and Frozone return to non-stop action in
a new Incredibles video game. The action begins at
the film's conclusion - Underminer's threatening emergence
to wreak havoc on the residents of Metroville. Players battle
the Underminer and his robot minions in the vast underground
world built by this diabolical genius. It is up to Mr Incredible
and Frozone to once again save the day. Are you super enough...?
After
the surprisingly fun (but not overly fantastic) Incredibles
game that was released at the end of 2004, I was expecting
more of the same from Rise of the Underminer. In truth,
bearing in mind the developers have had a year to come up
with something impressive, the resulting game is sadly disappointing.
You
can control Mr Incredible or Frozone as you battle your way
through hoards of robots in Underminer's underground lair...
and er... that's it, really. You run around hitting robots
and smashing through barricades. Mr Incredible is useful for
the majority of the heavy duty work, like knocking over large
objects, or raising heavy doors, while Frozone can freeze
the enemy and construct ice bridges to help you get further
in the game. But it all becomes too repetitive, too quickly.
The
graphics are nice and cutesy, and the cut scenes are well
conceived, but again these all seem to similar to one another.
At
the end of the day this game will probably keep the very young
entertained for a short while. Sadly, though, the repetitive
nature of the gameplay and the identical dull looking robot
enemies, mean that this offers nothing new in an already crowded
market place.
