She was born in Detroit on an automobile assembly line. But she is no ordinary car. Deep within her chassis lurks the devil incarnate. She is Christine - a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury. She seduces 17-year-old Arnie Cunningham who becomes consumed with passion for her sleek, rounded, chrome-laden body. She demands his absolute and unquestionable devotion and when outsiders seek to interfere, they become victims of Christine's uncontrollable wrath...

Most 17 year olds would kill to own a car like Christine after passing their driving tests, and Arnie Cunningham is no exception. However, he takes this figure of speech to literal proportions as he sets about killing people, who have wronged him, from behind the wheel of his new car. Or is he? We are never really sure, until the end, whether Cunningham is ever behind the wheel when Christine goes off on her killing spree.

The movie builds the suspense well and the viewer is kept guessing whether Cunningham is crazy, the car is alive or a little bit of both. Harry Dean Stanton also makes a brief appearance as the detective who is hot on the heels of Cunningham - although sadly he is very under used.

John Carpenter brings Stephen King's best selling novel vividly to life in this thriller that, while slightly dated, is still as gripping as it was on its original release. If you don't already possess this then you should pick up a copy. It could be the best £6 you spend this month.
