31/05/17 - Second volume of Legion score

news picLakeshore Records will release the Legion: Season 1 - Volume 2 Original Television Soundtrack digitally on 09 June.

The album contains additional original music by Jeff Russo with two sought after pieces – the special Legion 'Fauxlero' version of Maurice Ravel’s 'Bolero' and Dan Stevens performing The Muppets’ classic 'The Rainbow Connection' on banjo.

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) – a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep.

David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.

A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy’s concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she’s built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David’s eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

19/05/17 - Call of Cthulhu & Other Weird Stories

news picThe Folio Society has published two versions of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories.

The birth of the modern horror story can be traced to the dark visions that crept from the febrile imagination of H. P. Lovecraft at the beginning of the last century.

The Folio Society release a core version (an exception just in itself) and a limited edition version (750 copies) of H.P. Lovecraft’s acclaimed stories The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories.

These new editions marry Lovecraft’s best-known fiction with two modern masters of the macabre, the acclaimed artist Dan Hillier and author Alan Moore. In his beautifully crafted new preface, Moore finds Lovecraft at once at odds with and integral to the time in which he lived, ‘the improbable embodiment of an estranged world in transition’ yet, despite his prejudices and parochialisms, he ‘possessed a voice and a perspective both unique in modern literature’.

Product information: Bound in cloth blocked with a design by the artist. Set in Italian Old Style with Goudy Forum as display. 472 pages. Title page spread plus 6 black and white illustrations. Endpapers spot varnished with a design by the artist. Gold gilt page tops. Printed metallic slipcase. 10”x 6¾“
